SUEMITSU & THE SUEMITH
SUEMITSU & THE SUEMITH (スエミツ アンド ザ スエミス) is the solo project name of pianist/composer/vocalist 末光篤 (Suemitsu Atsushi). A native of Hiroshima, Japan and graduate of Nagoya Music University, he began experimenting with rock and music theory while in college. Suemitsu also traveled to Paris for one year to hone his skills as a classically trained pianist.
He became more well-known when he participated in the 2004 project, MOSH PIT ON DISNEY. This collaborative album was a collection of Disney song covers from various artists such as ACIDMAN, the band apart, DOPING PANDA, BEAT CRUSADERS, and more, including Suemitsu. On that album he simply went by the name, The Suemith, and performed a cover of “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid.
On February 23, 2005, SUEMITSU & SUEMITH released his first indie album, “Man Here Plays Mean Piano”. He enjoyed indie success with that release and in 2006 signed a record deal Ki/oon Records, a subsidiary of Sony. On April 19, 2006 “Man Here Plays Mean Piano” A New Edition 4 Sony Music was released with major label distribution.
SUEMITSU & THE SUEMITH has consistently released new, original singles ever since and continues to gain popularity as well as critical acclaim.
